| My rugs are
individually designed to have a strong initial impact and then to encourage the eye to
explore shapes, lights and darks, movement, and texture. My inspiration in weaving has
always been the graphics inherent in the woven structure as well as the tactile nature of
the materials. The excitement of combining graphics, texture and color as well as a
fascination with the technical demands draw me repeatedly to new possibilities. Although my pieces are often used on the wall, I am always aware of the design and structural elements basic to rugs. When used on the floor, a rug will be viewed from all four sides horizontally. I use a traditional weave structure that produces durable rugs, but have adapted my loom in an innovative way that gives me a great deal of design flexibility. My initial design work is done on a computer, which is not only helpful in the graphics of a design but in visualizing color combinations. My work was included in the exhibition, 'Art That Works: The Decorative Art of the Eighties, Crafted in America', which was curated by Lloyd Herman and toured museums from 1990 - 1993. In 1992, 1 was a recipient of a Grant-In-Aid from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts. Five years ago I moved from Washington, D.C. to Cape Cod. The closeness of water, marshes, and my constant work in the garden has affected my use of color to some extent. |

Beth:
Ravioli Mama Mia $1,610.00 44 x 76 wool This reversible rug started out as an exercise in using greens, a difficult color for me, and ended up as a whimsical play of design and color. My husband took one look at it and the name came to him. [Add to Cart] [View Cart] |

Triangle Tango 53 x79 I developed a way to make smooth-sided angles (without steps) and this design was one of the results of taking advantage of that technical advance. I also love Amish quilts and this has a bit of that look. It would be handsome in dark blue with blue/green, as well as several other color combinations. SOLD |
Beth:
Interlace $1,100.00 48 x 48 The way zippers work! That's what got me started on this design. That and wanting to use the blue/yellow combination. The idea of a square rug intrigued me. This design would also work well as a runner and of course, many others color combinations could be used. [Add to Cart] [View Cart] |
Beth:
Four Corners $1,700.00 49x 73 The lines in this rug, which are grouped in squares, are intended to seem like shadows of the bid squares. The idea of using a strong design feature repeated in each comer seemed natural when working with a rectangle. [Add to Cart] [View Cart] |

Marsh Views 49 x 66 When I moved from inner city Washington, D.C. to Cape Cod, my color sense was obviously affected by my now daily contact with nature. It took a friend to point this connection out to me, however! SOLD |
