Israeli sculptor Nili Kook
I began my artistic career relatively late in life. I was first attracted to working with clay, as it gave me the feeling that it guides me in my work. Every medium dictates to some extent, of course, but clay is particularly pliable and flexible. From there I moved to stone and to other forms of plastic art, including video.

My interest was first in the plastic aspect of my work and I am still atracted to issues such as motherhood, women, the human body as well as abstract shapes that emerge from. Later on I looked for a way for using my abilities to develop committed art - committed to the idea of my husband Hillel Kook (alias Peter Bergson, who fought during World War II for the rescue of Europe's Jews and for a Hebrew Government in Exile), concerning the importance of the separation of nationality from faith here and now.

I dealt with the essential and conceptual aspects of this issue; values, principles and culture join in order to bring forth a message, intuitively interpreted, in a work of art.

The examples I am proud of are a group statue which I called "Cohanim Blessing", depicting the ritual of Cohanim blessing in the synagogue, except that instead of being covered by a prayer shawl they are covered by the national flag; as well as a photo of a prayer shawl and a flag intermingling in a conflict and a contrast. I also made a video (a loop of three minutes) depicting a theoretical lecture on the topic delivered by my granddaughter, who was then four years old, against the background of suitable photographs.
